Tom Iselin shared the key principles of face-to-face fundraising and why it’s a winning tactic. Face-to-face fundraising gives donors a chance to see and feel your passion for your mission and organization! Check out the 7\u00a0Strategic Fundraising Principles Tom shared with the crowd:<\/p>\n

  1. Build sticky relationships\n

    • Personalize everything!<\/li>\n
    • Focus on individual interest<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Make a \u201cConnection Ask\u201d first\n
        \n
      • The first ask is NOT for money<\/li>\n
      • Ask the donor to come for a visit or volunteer for the day first<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • Increase the number of face-to-face asks\n
          \n
        • This helps to connect with the donor and nurture the relationship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • Find, keep, and touch more donors\n
            \n
          • Create a referral system<\/li>\n
          • Host open houses or awareness events<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
          • Get donors involved\n
              \n
            • Have them come for a tour or volunteer<\/li>\n
            • Invite them to attend an event<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
            • Focus on the needs you need to fill\n

              • Frame your ask to show how it will benefit the beneficiaries, not your organization<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
              • Create more goosebumps\n

                  Sarah Sebastian, Director of Brand Communications at Qgiv, went step-by-step on how to craft a better appeal letter, from what people look at first in the letter to how to catch people\u2019s attention with the envelope!<\/p>\n

                      • Choose powerful images<\/li>\n
                      • People are going to feel more connected to a picture of a person or animal looking happy and healthy than sad or sick<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
                      • Salutation\n
                          \n
                        • Don’t “Dear Friend” your donors<\/li>\n
                        • Try to use a salutation that matches the person\u2019s interest if you don\u2019t have their name. For example, use something like \u201cDear Animal Justice Warrior.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

                          • 79-90% of readers look here first!<\/li>\n
                          • Great place to make an ask<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
                          • Signature\n
                              \n
                            • Use someone besides the CEO to sign, like a volunteer or board member. If it is the CEO\u2019s signature, try to include a personal note.<\/li>\n
                            • Be creative with the signature! For example, if your appeal is for an animal shelter, have the signature be from an adoptable pet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
                            • Body of the Appeal\n
                                \n
                              • Make it easy to scan<\/li>\n
                              • Make sure that it’s donor-centered. It should contain more \u201cYou\u201d language that org-centered language.<\/li>\n
