How to Use Social Media & Digital Strategies to Build Community and Drive Donations

Presented by: Julia Campbell, Principal | J Campbell Social Marketing & Josh Hirsch, Social Marketing Content Manager | Susan G. Komen

Social media was once promised as the silver bullet for nonprofits. Start posting, start tweeting, start Instagramming – and like magic, the donations will just roll in! However, we soon realized that in the current attention economy, for nonprofits to effectively raise money and build community on social media it requires thoughtful, strategic, and consistent effort and a boatload of creativity. In this workshop, social media and digital fundraising expert Julia Campbell and Social Marketing Content Manager for Susan G. Komen Josh Hirsch will walk you through the secrets to successful donor relations using social media.

Participants will learn:

  • How to navigate the latest changes and trends in the social media landscape – what fundraisers need to know;
  • How to use social media to build and deepen relationships with current donors and prospects;
  • How to manage social media work at a small nonprofit with limited capacity;
  • Free and low-cost tools you can use to enhance your digital fundraising on a shoestring budget; and
  • Real-world examples from small and mid-size nonprofits including a short case study on how Susan G. Komen uses social media to broaden its reach.

Skills, knowledge and attitudes to be addressed in the program:

Participants will walk away energized and inspired to prioritize and to make concrete decisions around the best ways to use social media and digital fundraising strategies at their organization.

They will walk away with:

  • Actionable strategies, inspiration, and real-world examples of ways that even small nonprofits can get results with digital fundraising and social media;
